Why take a workshop with Margaret?
Margaret Irby creates writing workshops and writing trips. Her extensive travel, living abroad, and Mississippi upbringing give her a unique perspective in facilitating others' creative writing. Her own writing is an engaging and buoyant Southern voice. She studied acting and writing in New York and received her MA in French Literature from NYU in Paris, where she lived for eight years. Her classes draw a mixture of professionals, experienced writers, novices, and those who have only wished to write until now.
In her own words
"It seems to me that while there are many excellent writers, there are few natural teachers. Having been a student myself of gifted teachers, I understand the gradations and subtleties which the writing process entails. Also, drawing on my experience as an actress, I enjoy helping people find voices which may be poetic, daring or just plain funny! Knowledge combined with intuition suggests what each person needs next to move along in his or her work. In a warm, humorous and supportive atmosphere, I gain great satisfaction from seeing each person soar! "
